3 Taler / Schauguldiner 1509, struck 1517 in Antwerp. 83.10 g. Dies by Ulrich Ursentaler. Scratches on obverse. Rare.
Maximilian I was in the Netherlands in 1517 and needed prestige coins (Schauguldiner) to use as gifts. He wanted to have dies sent from Hall, but the dies were owned by the engravers in Hall, and the Innsbruck government was concerned that coins with a lower silver content might be struck in Antwerp, which would have a negative impact on the reputation of the Mint in Hall. Finally, the government relented and sent a die for the Schauguldiner to the Netherlands. This die was marked with a rosette in front of the horse.
