Maximian, first reign, 286-305 AD. Æ Medallion (38 mm; 34.93 g). Rome mint, struck 297-298 AD. Obverse: VIRTVS MAXIMIANI AVG, Laureate and cuirassed bust of Maximian to left, holding shield og left shoulder; cuirass decorated with aegis and shield ornamented with the She Wolf suckling Romulus and Remus over his left shoulder. Reverse: MONETA AVGG, The three Monetae standing facing, their heads turned left, each holding a cornucopia with left hand and a scale over a pile of coins with right. Minor traces of cleaning and some smoothing in fields. Reddish-brown patina. Very rare.
