MYSIA, Kyzikos. Æ 8 Assaria (39 mm; 33.0 g). Struck during the time of Commodus, 180-192 AD. Obverse: ΚΟΡΗ ϹΩΤЄΙΡΑ ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ, Draped bust of Kore right, wearing grain wreath and with hair tied in a bun at the back of her head. Reverse: ΝЄΩΚΟΡΩΝ / ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ, Youthful Dionysos, nude, standing left in a chariot drawn by two panthers, holding a pitcher in his right hand and a thyrsos in his left; above panthers, Pan standing left, raising right hand and holding lagobolon with his left; to left, male figure standing left, wearing short chiton, holding a staff with right hand and using left hand to balance a basket of fruits on top of his head. Dark brown patina with faint traces of earthen deposits. A few traces of cleaning in fields. Extremely rare and possibly unique.
